Calacatta Viola veining

Calacatta Viola

A white marble with violet to burgundy veining. Calacatta Viola is a trade name, and the stone is a marble: soft, acid-sensitive and different in every block.

What it is

A name you can check.

Trade names describe a look, not a stone. “Calacatta Viola” tells you the colour; “marble” tells you how it behaves. We always state both, plus the supplier’s quarry information for your batch when we have it.

Many marble slabs are reinforced with a fibre mesh on the back and have natural cracks filled with resin. Both are normal, and both are shown and marked on the slab photos you approve.

Finishes

Three surfaces, same stone.

Shown here as a simulation on one photo. Ask for a finish sample before you choose.

Polished finish
PolishedDeepest colour and contrast. Shows etching most.
Honed finish
HonedSatin, softer contrast. Etching shows less.
Leathered finish
LeatheredTextured, matte. Hides marks best.
Where it works

Good for. Not for.

Good for

  • Dining and coffee tables indoors, with care
  • Console and side tables
  • Vanity tops and basins, sealed
  • Fireplace surrounds (non-combustible zone set locally)
  • Feature walls and bookmatched panels

Think twice

  • Kitchen worktops near acids and heavy use
  • Outdoors in freeze–thaw or salt air
  • Restaurant tops that are wiped with acidic cleaners
  • Shower floors without a non-slip finish
  • Anywhere a perfectly uniform colour is expected
Natural variation

Same name, three different stones.

This is why you approve the slab, not a sample chip. A sample shows the material; it cannot show the slab.

Slab A
Slab A · Wide violet bands
Slab B
Slab B · Dense dark veining
Slab C
Slab C · Lighter, open ground

Made in Calacatta Viola

Any piece, in this stone.

Everything is made to order in the slab you approve. These are designs we have made in Calacatta Viola before, or drawn for it.

All dining tables
Not to be confused with

Three things sold under a similar name.

Calacatta

A white marble with grey to gold veining. Same family, different colour.

“Viola” porcelain

Printed porcelain slabs copy the look. Different material, different care, different trade rules.

Engineered quartz

Quartz-and-resin slabs sold in “Calacatta” colourways. Not a natural stone, and restricted in some markets.

Care

Simple, and regular.

Wipe spills straight away, especially acids. Clean with warm water and pH-neutral stone soap. Reseal tables and vanities when water stops beading, usually once or twice a year.

Sealing reduces staining; it does not stop etching. Etch marks on honed surfaces can usually be refinished locally.

We send photos of current Calacatta Viola slabs with sizes and numbers, and a sample piece if you want to hold it.
