Process & approval

Slab selection

Make the actual slab part of the approval.

Identify the slab.

Material approvalFrom sample to full slab
  1. 01

    Identify the supplied material.

  2. 02

    Review the full slab.

  3. 03

    Mark the cutting layout.

  4. 04

    Approve the current revision.

Keep the agreed information with the dated project drawing.

Identify the slab.

Ask for the supplied material name, slab number, dimensions, thickness and finish. Keep a full-face image and detail photographs in the same record. Identify anything that is still a proposal rather than a reserved slab.

  • Place the parts.
  • Keep the approval traceable.

The detail behind the decision.

See the whole surface.

A small sample cannot show the whole pattern. Review the slab in consistent light, then use close-ups to examine areas that affect the design. Ask for disclosed repairs, filling or other relevant treatments to be identified.

Place the parts.

Show the top, returns, legs and other visible components on an annotated layout. Mark vein direction, joints, cut-outs and the normal viewing direction. Agree which details are essential and where natural variation is acceptable.

Keep the approval traceable.

The approval should refer to a named slab and a dated drawing revision. If the material or layout changes, ask for a revised record before fabrication continues.

A useful record to request.

  • Project and piece reference, with date and drawing revision.
  • Named material, finish and approved layout.
  • Checks agreed with the responsible team and the evidence supplied.
  • Open points, approval status and the person confirming the next stage.
