Show the intended result.
A room photograph, sketch or drawing helps explain the scale and visual direction. Identify which features of a reference matter: shape, colour, support, edge or the way it meets the room. Include a plan when the piece must fit between fixed surfaces.
An inspiration image is not a construction drawing. Ask the supplier to identify the information still needed before design, material selection and fabrication can be agreed.
Give the practical boundaries.
State the approximate or confirmed dimensions, quantity and intended use. Add the material direction, finish preference and proposed base or support. For a basin or integrated fitting, include the relevant manufacturer drawings.
Share the destination country and postcode, site access and the intended delivery scope. If there is a target date, describe the dependency it relates to rather than assuming it is a confirmed production commitment.
Make unknowns easy to resolve.
Use a short list with three states: confirmed, proposed and unknown. This helps the supplier produce an estimate that is useful without presenting open decisions as fixed specifications. Ask for the next decision and the information needed to make it.
Keep later changes in a dated revision. When several people are involved, identify who approves the design, the slab and the release to ship.
Your checklist
- 01
Piece type, use and quantity.
- 02
Dimensions and room information.
- 03
Reference image with the important features marked.
- 04
Material, finish and support direction.
- 05
Fitting drawings where relevant.
- 06
Destination, access and desired delivery scope.
Keep the agreed information with the dated project drawing.
Questions before the next step
Do I need CAD to start?
No. A photo or sketch and approximate dimensions can start the conversation. Confirm the final requirements on the approval drawing.
What if I do not know the stone name?
Describe the colour, pattern and finish you like, then ask for identified samples and suitable options for the intended use.
