How heavy stone furniture is packed and delivered

Plan delivery around the packed piece and the final route. The crate, unloading arrangements and room placement belong in the quotation and handover plan.

Separate the stages of delivery.

Identify who arranges the main transport, local delivery, unloading, movement inside, assembly and installation. Record the handover points and exclusions. Ask which party is responsible for access information and booking any necessary equipment.

The destination postcode alone does not describe the final route. Share photographs or a plan of the entrance, parking, stairs, lift and final room. Ask the delivery team to review those details before confirming the service.

Check the packed dimensions.

Ask for the size and weight of each crate or package, not only the finished piece. Identify components that travel separately and how they will be assembled. Keep the packing list linked to the piece references on the drawings.

Discuss how the item will be unloaded and safely supported while it is unpacked. Lifting and moving arrangements should be made by the appropriate team. A photo of a crate does not establish that it is suitable for every journey.

Make the arrival record useful.

Agree who will be present and how the condition will be documented. Keep photographs of the crate and markings, then record visible concerns with the carrier and follow the agreed reporting process. Confirm the procedure and time limits in the relevant order terms.

Retain the packing information until the installation and checks are complete. If something looks wrong, document it before attempting a repair or discarding evidence. Keep the project reference with every communication.

Questions before the next step

Does delivery include installation?

Only if the agreed scope says so. Ask separately about unloading, room placement, assembly and installation.

Which dimensions does the delivery team need?

The packed dimensions and weights of each package, together with the dimensions and conditions along the route to the final location.
