From slab to finished furniture

Keep the material, drawing and piece number connected through every stage. Each approval should state what is ready and what remains open.

Shaped stone parts arranged in a fabrication workshop

Translate the reference into a specification.

Begin with use, dimensions, the visible form and the supporting assembly. Ask which details can be decided from a reference and which need a drawing, sample or site measurement. Keep open items visible in the project brief.

A useful specification describes the interfaces as well as the stone: edge, support, fixing or connection, fittings and adjoining finishes.

Approve material and layout before fabrication.

Connect the selected slab to the current drawing revision and proposed cut layout. Identify visible faces, vein direction, joints and relevant treatments. Record any accepted natural features or variations.

Where a sample, mock-up or trial assembly is required, agree what it is intended to confirm and who approves it. A photograph from another project is not the record for this piece.

Carry the record through the handover.

Agree the checks, release approval, packing list and delivery scope. Use the same piece references on the drawings, inspection photographs and package markings. This helps the arrival check refer to the correct components.

If a decision changes, update the affected record instead of relying on several conflicting messages. Keep the final approved version easy for every responsible team to identify.

Questions before the next step

Which approval matters most?

They serve different purposes. Material, drawing, functional or assembly checks and release to ship should each say what has been confirmed.

Why use piece numbers?

They connect the drawing, photographs, packing list and arrival check to the same components.
