Before the drawing

Three decisions that shape the piece.

A useful brief connects the appearance to the way the piece is made and used.

Review the slab approval checklist

Role and proportion
Decide whether the piece serves as a low coffee table, side table or display plinth. Share the intended height and the objects or furniture around it.
Construction and joints
A monolithic appearance does not establish that a piece is solid stone. Confirm slab-built or solid construction, joint positions, the underside and the expected weight.
Vein continuity
Review how the selected stone wraps across the top and sides. Ask for the actual cut layout when continuous veining or a paired set is important.

Choose the actual stone

Begin with a material direction.

A trade name or reference photograph is a starting point. Review the proposed stone, finish and cut layout, then record what is approved for your piece.

Common questions

Before you choose.

What is a marble plinth table?

A marble plinth table is a table with a block-like form, usually with the stone surface continuing down its sides. Its exterior can be achieved through different construction methods.

Is a plinth table solid all the way through?

Not necessarily. Confirm the proposed construction and weight in the quotation. Slab-built pieces and solid-block pieces can look similar in photographs.

Can a plinth be used as a coffee or side table?

Yes, if its dimensions and surface suit the intended use. Specify the required height, footprint and edge treatment rather than choosing by the word plinth alone.

Can the veining continue around the corners?

Vein continuity can be planned where the available material and construction allow it. Review the actual slab and cut arrangement before fabrication rather than relying on a reference photograph.
